In extra time of the UEFA European Championship quarter-final, with Spain leading Germany 2-1, Germany's #10 (the user identifies him as Musiala) struck a shot toward goal inside the penalty area. The ball struck the arm of a Spain defender (identified by the submitter as Cucurella) whose arm was visibly extended outward from the body rather than held naturally against it. Referee Anthony Taylor allowed play to continue and no VAR review took place. Under the handball rules in force in 2024/25, an arm held in that spread-out position — making the body unnaturally bigger — constitutes a handball offence even if unintentional, and a penalty should have been awarded to Germany. The frames are consistent with this being a missed call, though a definitive freeze-frame from the VAR angle would settle it with complete certainty. Germany, the affected team, were denied what appears to have been a legitimate penalty opportunity in a match they ultimately lost.
