The referee made the wrong call by disallowing the Chapecoense goal. During the aerial challenge in the penalty area, there was arm contact between players, but this is normal in football when players are competing for the ball—it wasn't rough enough or forceful enough to be a foul. Even the VAR officials reviewing the decision disagreed about whether there was actually a problem with the contact, which means there wasn't a clear-cut error to overturn the goal. The goal should have counted.
